Handing out tissue party crowns on the door to a group show

for the show the blooming assistant, in the Centre for Drawing, March 2005

I offered hand-made tissue party crowns on the door to a group show. If entrants wanted to wear a crown, they could choose from several bright colours. Within the structure of a critique session, on the last day of term, I was interested in whether the spirit of a party would be entered into and how participants might consider themselves - as royalty or a fool. The hats apart from their cultural specificity - the Christmas lunch or office party - governed a space within the show as an independent event. The crowns took on the condition of souvenir after the event.
